“Black Knight”
Black Knight™ Telecaster Pickup Set
Inspired by the classic blackguard Telecasters of the early 1950s.
The Black Knight™ is my interpretation of the legendary blackguard Telecaster® pickups built between 1951 and 1955 - a period that established one of the most recognizable and enduring electric guitar sounds ever created.
By the time the Broadcaster evolved into the Telecaster, Fender had refined an already revolutionary design into an instrument celebrated for its remarkable balance of clarity, warmth, dynamic response, and unmistakable twang. Those early blackguard guitars continue to inspire players across virtually every style of music, from country and blues to rock, Americana, jazz, and beyond.
Built with vintage-correct Plain Enamel magnet wire and Alnico 3 rod magnets, the Black Knight™ captures the musical character that made these early Telecasters legendary. The bridge pickup delivers the unmistakable snap and twang players expect, balanced by a round, sweet upper register and rich harmonic complexity that never becomes thin or harsh. It remains wonderfully dynamic, rewarding subtle picking with articulate cleans while producing authoritative growl when pushed into overdrive.
The neck pickup provides a beautiful complement to the bridge, offering warm, woody lows and mids while delivering exceptional clarity. I chose a nickel-silver cover to provide a slightly more open and articulate neck position that preserves additional high-frequency detail while maintaining the pickup's vintage character.
Rather than simply reproducing vintage specifications, I spent years studying what made the finest original Telecaster pickups so inspiring to play. Every aspect of the Black Knight™ was carefully refined through extensive listening, comparison, and development to create a pickup that captures the spirit of those remarkable instruments while delivering the consistency expected from a modern boutique pickup.
Whether your music leans toward traditional country, blues, roots rock, Americana, jazz, or classic rock, the Black Knight™ delivers the expressive dynamics, balanced twang, and unmistakable musicality that have made the early blackguard Telecaster one of the most influential electric guitars ever built.
