Pickups for Precision Bass

Precision Bass™ Split-Coil Pickup

Inspired by the legendary 1957 Precision Bass pickup.

The split-coil Precision Bass pickup introduced in 1957 forever changed the sound of the electric bass. By dividing the pickup into two hum-canceling coils, Fender® created a design that combined exceptional clarity, powerful midrange punch, and vanishingly low noise - qualities that have made the Precision Bass the recording and performing standard for generations.

My “Punch” Precision Bass™ pickup is inspired by those early split-coil designs that established one of the most recognizable bass tones ever recorded.

Built with vintage-correct 42 AWG Plain Enamel magnet wire and Alnico 5 rod magnets, this pickup delivers the authoritative low end, focused midrange, and articulate attack that have defined the Precision Bass for nearly seven decades. Notes remain full and supportive without becoming muddy, while the upper register retains the clarity needed to cut through a busy mix.

The result is a bass pickup that feels equally at home laying down a solid groove, supporting a band in the studio, or driving a live performance. Whether played with fingers or a pick, it responds with excellent dynamics, strong note definition, and the unmistakable warmth and “punch” that players expect from a great vintage-inspired Precision Bass.

Rather than simply reproducing vintage specifications, I spent years studying what made the finest vintage pickups so musically satisfying. Every detail of this design was refined through careful listening, comparison, and development to capture the spirit of those exceptional originals while providing the consistency expected from a modern boutique pickup.

From classic rock and soul to blues, country, Americana, funk, jazz, and modern recording sessions, this pickup delivers the balanced, expressive voice that has made the Precision Bass one of the most recorded instruments in music history.
