Pickups for Telecaster
“Original Black Knight”
Original Black Knight™ Broadcaster Pickup Set
Inspired by the pickups that launched the solid-body electric guitar.
The Original Black Knight™ is my interpretation of the remarkable pickups found in the earliest 1950 Broadcaster® guitars—the instruments that forever changed the course of electric guitar design.
Those first Broadcasters possessed a voice unlike anything that had come before them. Powerful yet articulate, raw yet incredibly musical, they established the unmistakable foundation for what would become one of the most influential electric guitar sounds ever created.
Built with vintage-correct 43 AWG Plain Enamel magnet wire and Alnico 3 rod magnets, the Original Black Knight™ captures the bold, dynamic personality of those pioneering instruments. The bridge pickup delivers thick, authoritative mids with exceptional punch, rich harmonic density, and the unmistakable chewy growl that made the Broadcaster legendary. Despite its muscular voice, it remains very responsive to picking dynamics, cleaning up beautifully as you lighten your touch or roll back the guitar's volume control.
The neck pickup provides a wonderful contrast, producing warm, rounded lows, expressive mids, and a clear, woody character that is equally at home delivering rich jazz tones, soulful blues, or beautifully articulate clean rhythm work.
Rather than simply copying vintage specifications, I spent years studying what made the finest early Fender pickups so inspiring to play. Every detail of the Original Black Knight™ was carefully refined through extensive listening, comparison, and development to capture the spirit of those exceptional originals while providing the consistency today's players expect from a boutique pickup.
Whether you're exploring classic country, roots rock, blues, Americana, rockabilly, or early rock and roll, the Original Black Knight™ delivers the authority, responsiveness, and unmistakable character that made the Broadcaster one of the most important electric guitars ever built.
